Full specification of the Blue Lagoon UV lamp

The UV lamp emits ultraviolet UV-C radiation with a wavelength of 253.7 nm with a very effective bactericidal action. During the disinfection process, the water of the hot tub, swim spa or pool flows through the UV lamp, where it is exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This radiation effectively kills bacteria, viruses and other simple microorganisms, which are the main source of water contamination, and prevents their multiplication. This method works even when the organisms become immune to other disinfection methods. In addition, UV-C radiation triggers photo-oxidation reactions that destroy chloramines ( chloramines cause an unpleasant smell in the pool area and irritate the mucous membranes ) without the need to apply further chemicals.

UV-C lamp – hot tub disinfection with ultraviolet light

A device that disinfects water using short-wave ultraviolet light, able to destroy viruses, bacteria and also algae. It is not used on its own; a reduced dose of a disinfectant, e.g. chlorine or hydrogen peroxide, is always also added to the water. It can destroy combined chlorine, just like an ozonator. It is a better option for assisting water disinfection than an ozonator. The effectiveness of a UV-C lamp tube gradually decreases; after roughly two years the tube needs to be replaced even if it still lights up. Modern pool-water treatment plants can no longer do without a UV-C lamp and they are installed in all facilities where there is greater contamination of the water.
